Dr. Tricia Larose has written a children´s book about cancer, entitled “A Checklist for Dad”. Her hope is that families can use this book to start a conversation with children and navigate the very difficult topic of cancer.
Lung cancer has been the most common cancer type for several decades with a low survival rate worldwide. Smoking is the most important risk factor for lung cancer, which accounts for 80-90 % of all lung cancer cases. Due to the declining trend in smoking, other lifestyle factors may become important for the incidence of lung cancer.
Our immune system is powerful in fighting infection, but can also specifically kill malignant body cells such as cancer cells. When we get vaccinated, the immune system gets trained and prepared for these fights. But it is believed that vaccines might also have the potential to educate our immune system to fight cancer cells.
